Wendy Andreu treats experimentation as a way of discovering what an object might become.
The French craft designer works through direct engagement with materials, testing their behaviour and pushing familiar processes towards unexpected outcomes. Rather than imposing a predetermined form, she allows making itself to generate possibilities, translating material discoveries into functional objects with a strong sculptural identity.
Her practice considers the relationships between matter, body and space as an open field of research. Context is as important as concept: an object is understood through the way it is made, but also through how it is encountered, used and situated within an environment. This approach allows Andreu to move fluidly between experimental research and commissioned projects while maintaining a particular attention to craftsmanship and aesthetic precision.
Her work is driven by an unusual capacity to move rapidly from idea to physical experiment. Prototypes become a means of thinking, allowing her to test intuition directly through matter and to develop techniques according to the specific demands of each project.
Andreu has received numerous distinctions, including the Public Prize of the Accessories Competition at Villa Noailles in Hyères and the Dorothy Waxman Textile Design Prize in New York in 2017. She was named a Rising Talent France at Maison&Objet in 2020, was a resident at CIRVA in Marseille from 2022 to 2024, and received the City of Paris Révélation Design Prize in 2024. She currently works from her studio in Pantin, developing experimental pieces alongside commissions for public and private clients, including interior architects and fashion houses.
