Vincent Decat

Vincent Decat

France

The boundary between sculpture and function is deliberately blurred in the work of Vincent Decat.

Based in Paris and a graduate of the Design Academy Eindhoven, he develops collectible design pieces that challenge the traditional relationship between object and user. Furniture and functional forms become sculptural presences — animated, expressive, and subtly anthropomorphic.

His work is driven by the idea that objects can possess a form of agency. Curved silhouettes, unexpected proportions, and carefully balanced volumes create pieces that appear almost alive, inviting emotional engagement beyond their practical purpose.

Rather than treating functionality and sculpture as separate disciplines, Decat allows the two to coexist. His objects remain usable, yet their primary role is often experiential: they occupy space, establish relationships, and generate a sense of attachment through their presence.

Positioned within a new generation of collectible design, his practice explores how contemporary objects can move beyond utility to become lasting companions, carrying both sculptural value and emotional resonance.
