SUDDEN OBJECT

SUDDEN OBJECT

Belgium

Founded in Rotterdam in 2024, the collective approaches design through repair, transformation, and reuse. Their practice begins with discarded objects — damaged, broken, or abandoned elements that have reached the end of their intended life. Rather than restoring them to their original state, Sudden Object reimagines them through a process of collage.

Collecting, casting, molding, transferring, and assembling, the collective constructs hybrid forms that feel simultaneously familiar and unexpected. Fragments from different histories coexist within a single object, creating new narratives while preserving traces of previous lives.

Their work explores the beauty of imperfection and obsolescence, proposing repair not as correction but as a creative act. Objects become carriers of memory, transformation, and possibility — suspended between what they once were and what they may become.

Situated between design, sculpture, and material experimentation, Sudden Object invites a reconsideration of value, permanence, and the life cycle of things.

Formed by Camille Filbien (FR), MacAulay Brown (US), Jacopo Bellina (IT), and Felix Keser (NL), the collective has presented its work at Collectible Brussels, Rotterdam Design Biennale, Object Rotterdam, and Dutch Design Week.
