Process takes precedence in the work of Sheyang Li.
Moving between object design and sculpture, he approaches each piece as a site of experimentation — where making becomes a form of research. Rather than seeking control, he establishes conditions: guiding the material just enough for form to emerge.
This balance between intention and unpredictability allows the material to remain active within the work. Surfaces, structures, and details are not fully predetermined, but develop through response — to gesture, to process, to transformation.
His objects often appear precise, yet carry an underlying instability — a sense that they could shift, evolve, or reconfigure. This tension defines their presence.
Through this approach, Sheyang Li constructs a practice where design is not fixed, but continuously negotiated between idea and matter.
