A quiet tension runs through the paintings of Philipp Karl Moritz.
Working between abstraction and figuration, he develops compositions where forms emerge and recede within structured, grid-like fields. Fragments resembling still life appear at the edge of visibility, resisting clear definition or stable placement.
His paintings are defined as much by surface as by image. Through the repeated polishing of still-moist oil layers, he builds a dense, tactile skin — uneven, reflective, and subtly shifting with light. This process introduces a temporal dimension, where the act of making remains embedded in the work.
Rather than resolving into fixed images, his paintings remain open — suspended between appearance and dissolution, structure and instability.
His work has been presented in Berlin, Munich and Stuttgart.
