A familiar object rarely remains familiar for long in the hands of Max Enrich.
His practice challenges conventional distinctions between function and form, using collectible design as a field for experimentation. Working with stone, metal, wood and glass, Enrich begins with materials and typologies we readily recognise, then shifts their proportions, combinations and visual codes to create objects that feel unexpected without losing their connection to everyday use.
Playfulness is fundamental to this process. Colour, scale and material contrasts allow him to question assumptions about how an object should look, behave or occupy space. The roughness and familiarity of stone, wood or metal can give way to something surprisingly delicate; a functional form can acquire the autonomy and presence of sculpture.
Rather than rejecting utility, Enrich stretches its boundaries. His work proposes collectible design as a space of curiosity and freedom, where ordinary materials reveal possibilities that are anything but ordinary.
