The work of Kanewa begins with a shift — from image to matter, from observing the world to shaping it by hand. After studying and working in cinema and documentary, his practice moved toward a more physical relationship with form, driven by the need to engage directly with materials.
Living and working between the Pyrenees in France and Barcelona, he develops a research-based practice that moves across wood, stone, glass, metal, and methods drawn from different cultural and disciplinary intersections.
Rather than focusing on a single medium, Kanewa approaches making as a field of connections — between landscape and memory, object and gesture, ancestry and transformation. This layered approach gives his work a particular density: forms feel grounded, but never closed; tactile, yet open to interpretation.
The name Kanewa itself reflects this search for origins. Adopted from Wayuunaiki, it becomes part of a broader exploration of roots, transmission, and belonging.
