Nearly four decades of working with ceramics have shaped Diane’s distinctly personal approach to form, surface and balance.
Born and raised in London, she discovered clay during her foundation studies in the 1980s and went on to study ceramics at Farnham, now part of the University for the Creative Arts. What first attracted her was the immediacy and tactile responsiveness of the material; over time, this fascination expanded into a sustained exploration of its remarkable versatility and long cultural history.
After graduating in 1988, Diane continued her ceramic practice alongside teaching and raising her family, first in North Yorkshire and later in Northamptonshire. In 2007, she established a larger studio in Towcester, allowing her work to develop in scale and ambition, and in 2015 she committed fully to her artistic practice.
Her work is characterised by carefully constructed tensions. Contrasts of texture, colour and visual weight bring different elements into relation: roughness against refinement, density against lightness, restraint against more expressive gestures. Rather than resolving these oppositions, Diane uses them to give each piece its particular rhythm and presence.
Her work has been presented nationally and internationally, including at London Art Fair, Collect and Ceramic Art London. She is a Selected Member of the Craft Potters Association and is included as a Master Artisan in the Homo Faber Guide by the Michelangelo Foundation.
