To understand, in the work of Cengiz Hartmann, is first to touch.
The German word Begreifen — to grasp with the hand and to comprehend — becomes a guiding principle in his practice. Objects are reduced to their essential form, yet never emptied of meaning. What remains is not minimalism as reduction, but as concentration.
Working across materials shaped by time, weather, and natural processes, he approaches making as a dialogue rather than an imposition. Surfaces bear traces of transformation, integrating external forces into the work itself.
His pieces invite interaction — physical, perceptual, and associative. They do not dictate meaning, but open a field of relationships, where form and content remain inseparable.
Balancing intuition and reflection, his process unfolds through iterative phases. Each work becomes a point of condensation — where experience, material, and perception converge into a quiet, essential presence.
