Clay remains close to the hand in the work of Ayse Habibe Kucuk.
Based in London and rooted in Gaziantep, her practice is grounded in hand-building — a process that preserves the direct relationship between gesture and form. Each piece carries the imprint of its making, shaped slowly and without mediation.
Her objects move between function and sculpture. Surfaces are left raw or finished with soft, earthy glazes, allowing texture and tone to remain present. No two pieces are identical; each one develops its own character through the process.
Produced in her Hackney studio, her work reflects a quiet commitment to material and repetition — where making becomes both practice and transmission. Alongside her own work, she teaches, sharing a tactile understanding of clay and guiding others through its possibilities.
Her pieces hold a grounded, immediate presence — shaped by hand, and anchored in the material itself.
