Atelier de Rijk

Atelier de Rijk

Netherlands

There is a quiet precision in Tessa de Rijk’s work — a sense that each line, each form, has been reduced to what is strictly necessary.

Trained as an architect, she carries with her an understanding of balance and proportion, yet her practice moves away from structure as constraint. In her studio, the process remains open: testing, adjusting, allowing materials and gestures to lead.

Working across painting, ceramics, and sculpture, she builds a language that is both restrained and tactile. Forms appear almost effortless, yet are the result of a continuous process of refinement — a search for clarity rather than complexity.

Her use of ink, influenced by calligraphic traditions, introduces a different temporality: gesture becomes immediate, irreversible. Each mark holds both intention and release.

What emerges is a body of work that does not impose itself, but settles into space — quietly, precisely, and with a sense of inner balance.
